Leandra subseriata, 25 seeds
From the cloud forests of Central America comes this rarely seen shrubby plant. Belonging to the same family as the Purple Princess Flower (Tibouchina sp), Leandra subseriata has the similarly elongated, oval, green, distinctively veined leaves as most of its cousins, making it a rather handsome evergreen. From autumn onwards, it blooms, quite abundantly, and the flowers are, however, very different and not what one would normally expect. White, small and with recuved petals so as to exposed the relatively large yellow anthers, each bloom is carried on a large, dense raceme. Upon pollination, these form into pinkish berries that ripen into blue, again a very unusual trait for this family which usually features urn-shaped pods. No hardiness zone info, sorry. 5 feet tall, 4 feet wide. Part shade. Rich loamy soil. Average water. Fresh, exclusive seeds, harvested 01/2025.
