Ipomopsis rubra, 35 seeds
This is a rarely-seen biennial wildflower native to Southeastern US, but can be grown anywhere where it is hardy. With a very small footprint, it can be tucked into any narrow and/or small space as it grows in a very compact clump with stiff unbranched stems that keep getting taller and taller as the season progresses. Sparsely leaved with ferny foliage, it is a plant that sways with the wind looking delicate but is tough and unfussy about soil, heat and watering. Blooms repeatedly in summer and each spike bears many tubular, brilliant scarlet, tubular starry flowers that are just enticing to the hummingbirds. Hardy from zone 6 upwards. 4" wide, 6 feet tall. Drought-tolerant once established. Any garden soil. Fresh seeds, harvested 04/2020.
