Belonging to the same family as the Chilean Guava (Ugni molinae/Myrtus ugni/Eugenia ugni), Luma apiculata is almost unknown and impossible to find anywhere in the US except here in the Northwestern part. This attractive, easy-to-grow evergreen shrub/small tree is clothed year-round in small, glossy, dark leathery, slightly pointed leaves that are extremely aromatic. The foliage can be usd in stews and marinadess. Its beautiful, powederpuff-like white flowers with an amazingly large number of stamens contrasted by a nice pink center are produced in early summer. These are followed by edible berries that ripen to dark purple. Hardy from zone 8 onwards. 8 feet tall, 5 feet wide. Full sun to light shade. Well-drained garden soil. Exclusive, fresh seeds, harvested 11/2024.
