Albizia julibrissin 'Summer Chocolate', 5 seeds
Not to be confused with the Sensitive Plant (Mimosa pudica) which is a creeper mainly grown for its curiosity value, the Mimosa Tree (Albizia julibrissin) is a fast-growing deciduous ornamental tree beloved by many but hated by others for the same reasons. Attaining 3 feet of growth in just one season, it can form a beautiful specimen with a wide umbrella-shaped canopy of ferny leaves. Blooming in summer with hundreds of pink powderpuff flowers that are not only fragrant but also very attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. Of easy care, it adapts to any well-drained soil, tolerates heat and humidity and needs only occasional watering once established. 'Summer Chocolate' is a cultivar introduced from Japan, characterized by foliage that deepens to a dramatic rich maroon/chocolate color in summer/sun. Hardy from zone 7 onwards. 20 ft tall, 15 ft wide. Full sun. Well-drained soil. Moderate water. Usually available only in plant forms. Fresh seeds, harvested 10/2022.
