Lepechinia fragrans, 10 seeds
Pitcher sages are best known for their soft, hairy, strongly fragrant leaves and long racemes of large, showy flowers. This rare California native perennial is almost never seen in nurseries nor on ebay. Often confused with its cousin Lepechinia calycina. Of all California native species, this shrubby plant has the most attractive flowers and the most pleasing scent. L. fragrans is the one to grow for its fragrant fuzzy, somewhat arrow-shaped, green leaves from where a very gentle, deliciously, pleasant aroma is exuded when rubbed. This fruity scent is hard to place, yet extremely delightful. Blooms from early spring through late summer. The large, pitcher-shaped flowers with purple calyxes are held on long inflorescences, quite showy. Hardy from zone 9 upwards. 4 feet tall and wide. Full sun. Well-drained garden soils. Average water. Exclusive fresh seeds, harvested 06/2024.
