Echium gentianoides 'Tajinaste', 10 seeds
What a wonderful sky blue! Most folks are familiar with Pride Of Madeira (Echium candicans)/Tower Of Jewel (E. wildpretii) that bear purple or pink flowers. These are plants that take up lots of space in the yard, but pays off considerably when they bloom with their tall impressive spikes that are just filled with flowers abuzzed with bees. Well, if you have lots of room in your yard, grow them all. But if all you want is one Echium (either due to lack of space or just to make a exclamation point in your landscape) and you like blue, this is the one for you. An extremely rare and endangered species from the La Palma Island (part of Canary Islands), Echium gentianoides 'Tajinaste' is a stunningly beautiful, multi-branching, shrub-like plant with unusually "smooth" foliage (still a little bristly, but much less than the other species). Good-sized flowering spikes with gorgeously deep, tubular blooms. Hardy from zone 9 onwards. 5 feet tall and wide. Full sun, and any well-drained garden soils. Hard-to-find, fresh seeds, harvested 06/2024.
