Impatiens tinctoria, 5 seeds
This legendary exotic Impatiens from Africa is one of the few rare yet hardy species. A tuberous perennial, I. tinctoria forms a big clump with many thick fleshy stems bearing racemes of wonderfully fragrant, huge, pristine-white flowers with long spurs. The fantastically orchid-like blooms are flattish, hooded, and beautifully marked in the centre in dark red. Oval to lance-shaped scalloped leaves. Hardy from zone 7 onwards. 6 feet tall, 3 feet wide. Part shade. Rich, moist but well-drained soil. Regular watering. Usually available only in plants/cuttings form. Fresh, exclusive seeds harvested 09/2024.
