Bartlettina tuerckheimii, 20 seeds
Just the two common names of this plant are reasons enough to grow it, :-). From the misty cloud forests of Mexico comes this amazing flowering shrub/tree. Thrives and fast-growing in bright shade, Bartlettina tuerckheimii has glossy lanceolate foliage that makes it a handsome specimen even without blooms. In early spring, it produces stalks that rise above the foliage, and burst into the most spectacular head of purple, fuzzy, lilac-scented flowers with long styles, resembling that of a large Ageratum. Instantly distinctive and immediate breathtakingly beautiful! Filtered sun or bright shade. Hardy from zone 9 onwards. 10 feet tall, 5 feet wide but can be pruned to be much smaller. Rich, well-drained soil. Regular watering. Even harder-to-find than the rather popular B. sordida which has very large non-glossy leaves. Rare exclusive seeds, harvested 12/2020.
