Interested overseas buyers, please use the "Ask us a question" link above to enquire about shipping.
Leonotis leonurus is a striking semi-evergreen perennial with brilliant-orange, velvety flowers arranged in whorls up the stem, creating a columnar effect. From summer till early winter, butterflies, hummingbirds and lots of unusual birds flock to the two-lipped, tubular blooms of Lion's Tail (Wild Dagga). If you want to have a roaring success (pun intended!) with birds in your gardens, this plant is the secret. Linear to lance-shaped leaves, sometimes confused with the Annual Lion's Ear/Klip Dagga (Leonotis nepetifolia) which is a coarser looking plant with toothed triangular leaves. Can also be differentiated from the other by its softer-to-touch non-prickly seed pods. Hardy from zone 9 onwards. 6 feet tall, 3 feet wide. Full sun. Drought-tolerant. Well-drained soil. Fresh seeds, harvested 07/2025.
