Many shade gardeners limit themselves to light-color flowers so that the shady area will look brighter. However, once a tall, dark red plant such as this is added, a touch of elegance, royalty and structure is immediately introduced. This flowering maple is a perennial with maple-shaped leaves that is really not a maple at all. Abutilon hybridum is a shrub that blooms from early spring through summer, but will also occasionally flowers through the winter. Each dark red flower of 'Voodoo' is pendulous, and half-opened.
