Berberis wilsoniae, 15 seeds
Named after the wife of the famous plant explorer, E.H. Wilson, this rarely available China native is yet another dense and colorful fast-growing, relatively uknown, semi-deciduous shrub. For most part of the year, Berberis wilsoniae persists as a mound-forming perennial with many arching branches carrying bluish-green, spoon-shaped leaves and wonderfully orangy-red but very wicked-looking thorns. Then comes the short panicles of yellow flowers in summer, followed by spherical, translucent, pinkish-red berries in autumn. Hardy from zone 3 onwards. Full sun to part shade. 4 feet tall, 6 feet wide. Average well-drained soil. Do not overwater. Very hard-to-find, exclusive seeds, harvested 11/2020.
