Growing tall with multi branches, Impatiens sodenii subsp oliveri is a wonderful easy shade plant that will totally change your opinion of Impatiens if you are only familiar with the low growing annual Impatiens usually available in the garden centers. Achieving the stature of a small tree/shrub, it is an impressive, stout perennial with large lilac-pink rhododendron-like flowers. Blooms almost year-round here in California but is actually native to part of East Africa. Toothed, glossy, lance-shaped leaves. Evergreen in warmer climates and might be deciduous in cooler areas, it can be grown indoor too as a houseplant. Hardy from zone 10 onwards. 4 feet or more. Morning sun. Moist soil. Regular water. Usually available as plants or cuttings. Hard-to-find seeds, harvested 05/2025 - 07/2025.
