Colletia paradoxa, 5 seeds
From Brazil and Uruguay comes this strange and bizarre beauty that is sure to bring out the oohs and ahhs from your visitors. A leaf-less, upright shrub with bluish-green stems that are flattened into perpendicular, overlapping anchor shapes ending in a very pointed tip, this truly unique plant is a dangerous MUST-HAVE for all folks with a taste for the cutting edge (pun intended! :-)). New growth has small leaves that are present only briefly. Bloom time is in autumn, when Colletia paradoxa is covered in tiny white, lilac-scented flowers, and fascinatingly abuzzed with bees. Full sun. Hardy from zone 8 onwards. 8 feet tall and wide. Well-drained soil. Drought-tolerant once established. Very hard-to-find seeds, harvested 09/2024.
