Dicliptera suberecta, 7 seeds
A stunning herbaceous perennial from Central South America, Dicliptera suberecta is a firecracker plant that thrives even when neglected. Belonging to the Acanthaceae family, this ornamental is deciduous in winter but sprouts felty, velvety grey leaves in a neat textural clump starting spring. Then from summer into autumn, it blooms and the fiery floral show begins. Tons of long-lasting, two-lipped, reddish-orange tubular flowers in upright clusters attract not only hummingbirds but also butterflies. Heat, humidity and drought-tolerant, it is also deer resistant and has no known serious insect problems or diseases. Hardy from zone 7 onwards. 2 feet tall, 3 feet wide. Full sun. Any well-drained soil. Little water needs. Usually available only in plant forms. Exclusive, fresh seeds, harvested 08/2024.
