The exact variety of this outstanding and gorgeous perennial from Central America is unknown, though a buyer from Croatia has suggested that it is most likely to be 'Sky King'. This rare relative of the Angel Trumpets (Brugmansia) has smaller leaves and more refined flowers. Iochroma cyaneum is a gem that is almost always in flower in California. Bears long tubular flowers that flare 1/2" wide at the tips. Each bloom starts off deep royal blue and gradually age to light purple, so you will usually multiple hues in a cluster. Hardy from zone 8 onwards. 6 feet tall and wide. Full sun to part shade. Average garden soil. Moderate water needs, do not overwater.
