Bought as Kennedia coccinea and thought to be a native of Australia, it turns out to be not in both cases. For years, we kept it as Kennedia sp 'Red' and now it has finally been identified by a buyer in Croatia, thanks so much! Camptosema rubicundum/Kennedia splendens actually hails from Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. This twining climber with pretty three-leaflet foliage is evergreen here in California but might be deciduous elsewhere. It extends the blooming season of the winter-blooming Coral Pea Vines (Hardenbergia species) by flowering from spring through summer. The pea-like blossoms are red, with dull-red calyces. These are followed by seed pods that mature to an interesting grayish-green rather than brown. Only 1 to 4 seeds in a pod. No hardiness zone info sorry. Full sun to light shade. Regular garden soil. Average water. Hard-to-find seeds, harvested 09/2021.
