Cochliasanthus/Vigna caracalla, 5 seeds
Just once in a blue moon does one come across a plant like the Contorted Corkscrew Vine. Previously known as Vigna caracalla, we have been informed that the accepted botanical name is now Cochliasanthus caracalla. This perennial twiner just seems to have it all -- out-of-this-world fragrance and exquisite blooms. If you have time or room for only one vine, make it this. The Purple Snail Vine (Sigmoidotropis speciosa) is a great plant as well, but since your vertical space is lacking, the less vigorous Contorted Corkscrew Vine would be a better choice. Plant this and be prepared to be wowed by the curly, snail-shell-like with lilac accents blooms from late summer through fall. The colors of the flower change from white and purple to gold and violet as it ages, giving the plant an additional dimension not found in the Purple Snail Vine. Be sure to have this near your door/window to enjoy the intense fragrance. Hardy from zone 9 onwards. Full sun. Well-drained, rich soil. Regular water. Fresh, hard-to-find but easy-to-germinate seeds, harvested 11/2022.
