Salvia namaensis, 7 seeds
Here is an extremely delicate-looking and rarely seen Sage for Salvia collectors and folks who believe that dynamite comes in small packages, :-). Native to South Africa, everything about Salvia namaensis is small. Though it can get to be somewhat shrub-like, it can also be easily containerized to be best viewed and enjoyed. The main delightful feature is its green, finely dissected leaves which gives it a frothy, textured appearance. The foliage is highly aromatic, sweet-smelling and medicinal in scent. It flowers from late spring through fall, and though the light blue blooms are small, they are wonderfully intricate as well when closely examined. I would say that the shape of the flowers is not typical of that of a Salvia flower, but it is beyond my vocabulary to describe it, so take a look at the pictures to see if you agree, :-). Hardy from zone 9 onwards. Full sun. 2 feet tall and wide. Any well-drained soils. Hard-to-find seeds, harvested 11/2013.
