Salvia karwinskii Red Calyx Form, 10 seeds
Rarely seen in cultivation in the US, Salvia karwinskii is yet another wonderful winter-blooming plant from South America. It grows into a stout, luxuriant shrub that appears somewhat grayish as its leaves and stems are covered by white short, wooly hairs. Inflorescences start to develop after Christmas and when it blooms, the two-lipped, infated, rose-pink flowers are such a treat at a botanically bereft time of the year. This particular form has browninsh-red calyx. Hardy from zone 8 onwards. 6 feet tall, 4 feet wide. Full sun to part shade. Any well-drained soils. Very rare seeds, harvested 06/2023.
