Salvia leucantha 'Midnight', 10 seeds
This tough, drought tolerant, and highly pest and deer resistant Mexican Bush Sage is often confused with the Mexican Sage (Salvia mexicana) due to the similar common name. However, once a person sees the flowers of both, the differences are immediately apparant. Salvia leucantha 'Midnight' bears graceful, showy spikes of purple, velvety flowers, mainly during autumn but also periodically throughout the year. Soft, downy, lance-shaped leaves. This Salvia is so easy to grow that I have sort of taken it for granted. Hummingbirds and butterflies, though, still find it thoroughly attractive and reliable in providing nectar, :-). Mexican Bush Sages are normally sold as plants/cuttings in nurseries/catalogs. So if you are from a foreign country where plants/cuttings are not available, or if you simply want to try this one from seeds, don't miss this item. Hardy from zone 8 onwards. 5 feet tall and wide. Full sun. Well-drained garden soils. Infrequent watering during summer. Hard-to-find seeds, harvested 06/2021.
