Salvia karwinskii Green Calyx Form, 10 seeds
Rarely seen in cultivation in the US, here is yet another wonderful plant from South America. Salvia karwinskii grows into a stout, luxuriant shrub that appears somewhat grayish as its leaves and stems are covered by white short, wooly hairs. Inflorescences start to develop after Christmas and when it blooms, the two-lipped, infated, rose-pink flowers with green calyx are such a treat at a botanically bereft time of the year. Though typically touted as a winter-blooming plant, here in California, the flowering period can last until late summer! Hardy from zone 8 onwards. 6 feet tall, 4 feet wide. Full sun to part shade. Any well-drained soils. Hard-to-find seeds, harvested 09/2024.
