Polygonum orientale, 25 seeds
Even without seeing a picture of this plant, I know I have to have it once I heard its common name of Kiss Me Over The Garden Gate. Originating from China, it used to be very popular in the US, but is very rarely seen now as the garden centers focus mainly on compact, easily transplanted summer annuals. What a pity! As this particular favorite of Thomas Jefferson is a quick way to add pizzazz in any hot sunny area. Fast growing to a dramatic height of 7 feet, it produces plenty of willowy stems of cerise-pink, pendulous clusters that sway with the wind, giving it an airy feel despite its size. Totally spectacular and absolutely eye-catching! 7 feet tall, 4 feet wide. Full sun. Rich garden soil. Regular water needs. Fresh seeds, harvested 09/2024.
