Pavonia praemorsa, 10 seeds
A nectar source for the Painted Lady Butterfly and hence a great addition to the butterfly gardens, this native of South Africa is however, unfortunately, hard to find and rarely offered. Pavonia praemorsa, commonly called Yellow Mallow, is an easy-to-grow evergreen rounded shrub with small, medium green leaves, suitable for most light conditions and most garden soils as long as the soil is not soggy all the time. Blooming almost year-round here in California, the flowers clusters arise from the leaf axils a light apricot color, then mature to bright yellow and age to a rose red. A very colorful sequence not found in most other plants in the Malvacea family. Hardy from zone 8 onwards. 6 feet tall and wide. Full sun to part shade. Any well-drained garden soil. Usually offered only in plant form. Hard-to-find exclusive seeds, harvested 08/2016 - 09/2016.
