Despite its name, Dracocephalum moldavica is not native to Moldova. Origninating from temperate Asia and then spreading through Eastern Europe, it has worldwide application but is still relatively unknown in the US. Used a bee forage in Russia, the Dragonhead blooms in late spring through summer with showy purplish-blue flowers that are somewhat similar to hyssop, and somewhat similar to Salvias, on strong erect spikes. In Eastern Europe, its aromatic lemony-minty leaves are used to flavor fish dishes, instead of lemon balm. A bushy annual that will self-sow such as to be perennial in effect, this unusual plant is easy to grow and extremely rewarding. 2 feet tall and wide. Full sun to part shade. Rich well-drained soil.
