The Yojiro series is actually an interspecific stable hybrid of Ipomoea purpurea and an African strain of Ipomoea purpurea and Ipomoea nil, rather than simply an I. nil. This morning glory gets the best of both worlds. From its purpurea plant, it inherits the ability to be more cold tolerant, hence is great for those areas with cool summer or where growing season is short. From the same parent, it also inherits the smaller flower size, so most of the blooms open up perfectly formed and are pretty resistant to wind . From the other parent, it gets its gorgeous white ray (spokes), white picotee edge and the ability to remain open all day. Many folks confuse the Yojiro with the Mt Fuji series of Japanese Morning Glories. One thing to note is that the flowers in the Yojiro series are always 5-spoked, never 6 nor 7 nor 8 spokes nor 9 spokes as the bloom is smaller. Also, the leaf shapes are different. Yojiro has beautiful, unusual green, dragon-fly shaped leaves that have a narrow 'waist'. The flowers of this particular cultivar are sky blue, why it has the Japanese name of a girl (Chiaki) might be puzzling to most, :-). 6 feet or more. Full sun for earliest bloom. Poor soil. Moderate water. Fresh, hard-to-find seeds, harvested 11/2023 - 12/2023. Open-pollinated.
