Salvia mexicana Dark Calyx, 10 seeds
One of the most beautiful and impressive of all Salvias, the Mexican Sage is among the best in the genus for fall through winter colors. Blooms with flowers that are dark purple, protruding from dark calyces on upright blooming spikes. Simply labelled with the species name of Salvia mexicana, the exact cultivar name of this is not known. It flowers earlier than 'Huntington Gardens' and is smaller in size compared to that. Very prolific in blooming, but seed production is low. Hardy from zone 7 onwards. 6 feet tall, 5 feet wide. Full sun to part shade, and any well-drained garden soils. Protect brittle branches from strong winds. Very fresh seeds, harvested 12/2024.
