Montanoa leucantha ssp arborescens, 10 seeds
Belonging to the same family as the Sunflower and the Daisies, the rarely seen and available Montanoa leucantha ssp arborescens is a spectacularly handsome species from Central America. Evergreen with lush, lobed leaves, it is a giant in the garden, reaching 12 feet tall and wide pretty quickly. The real drama, however, comes when the days shorten and weather cools. In Autumn, it bursts into bloom and the whole tree is literally completely covered with white daisy-like flowers contrasted by yellow centers. These classic beauties are deliciously fragrant -- like vanilla to my nose but like chocolate to some, and like cupcakes to others. Flowering continues for a month or so, and then comes the chartreuse seed heads which persist for quite some time, adding yet another dimension of interest for winter. Hardy from zone 9 onwards. 12 feet tall and wide. Full sun. Well-drained garden soil. Drought-tolerant but grows faster with regular watering. Exclusive fresh seeds, harvested 01/2025.
