Halleria lucida, 20 seeds
Tree Fuchsia, also known as African Honeysuckle, is a seldom seen South African plant that deserves greater distribution. Though technically belonging to the Foxglove family and not a true Fuchsia, Halleria lucida has orangy-red tubular, some-what fuchsia-like blooms that are extremely nectar-rich. The showy flowers are borned on stalks that are directly attached to the main trunk and branches of the tree, an odd and interesting phenomenon called cauliflory, meaning 'stem-flower'. Upon pollination, small green fruits are formed and these then become the favorites of many birds. Fast growing and easily adaptable to many garden conditions, this plant usually blooms second year from seeds. Hardy from zone 9 onwards. 15 feet tall, 6 feet wide. Full sun to bright shade. Well-drained soil. Drought-tolerant once established. Fresh, exclusive seeds, harvested 09/2022.
