Ardisia/Synardisia venosa/Parathesis chiapensis, 5 seeds
In the mood to try out something totally unknown ? How about this species from the cloud forests of Chiapas Mexico ? Well when I said unknown, I literally mean it. Originally identified as P. chiapensis by a previous buyer, it is now also identified as Ardisia/Synardisia venosa by another buyer. Maybe all these names are synonyms. In any case, it is a small vining sprawling tree/shrub with broadly elliptical, glossy leaves. Blooms in late spring/early summer and flowers are followed by 1-seeded red berries that turn blackish upon ripening. The flowers are out of this world -- red, bell shaped with white skirt, dangling in clusters from branch tip, just spectacular! 15 feet tall and wide. Probably not heat-tolerant. Dappled shade to part sun. Rich, fast-draining soils, regular watering. Very rare fresh seeds, harvested 01/2025.
