Asclepias/Gomphocarpus physocarpus, 25 seeds
For those folks looking to add a touch of whimsy to their gardens or looking to attract hundreds of Wanderer /Monarch Butterflies, Asclepias physocarpus is THE plant. An easy-to-grow, huge perennial shrub that blooms first year from seeds. Umbels of creamy-pink, upside-down hourglass-shaped flowers from spring through fall. These are magically transformed into huge, round, lime-green, translucent, balloon-like/ball-like seed pods with little soft spiny 'hairs'. Lanceolate leaves. Often confused with Swan Plant (Asclepias fructicosus) which has pointed seed pods, but this is more robust and resilient, and more resistant to the onslaught of the caterpillars. Hardy from zone 9 onwards. 5 feet tall, 4 feet wide. Full sun to light shade. Moist soil. Regular watering. Very fresh seeds, harvested 10/2023.
