Intoduced by Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens, this hybrid combines the best attributes of both its parents Salvia mellifera (Black Sage) and Salvia sonomensis (Creeping Sage), forming a fast-growing, low yet upright mound of green aromatic foliage. The spreading habit of the evergreen subshrub makes it a highly desirable groundcover that at the same time produces attractive blue-purple flowers in spring which attracts bees and hummingbirds. Deer and drought-tolerant, it prefers deep watering once a week rather than drip irrigation. Hardy from zone 8 onwards. 2 feet tall, 3 feet wide. Full sun to part shade. Well-drained soil. Drought-tolerant. Exclusive, hard-to-find seeds, harvested 09/2024.
