Salvia rubescens, 10 seeds
A rarely seen native of Venezuela, Salvia rubescens is a beautiful perennial with a long blooming season, starting from late summer, and sometimes extending well into the following year. From a lowly clump of greyish-green leaves, extremely tall, black blooming stalks are produced. At the top of these are the slender, fiery-red, somewhat arching, flowers with contrasty black calyx. Well-spaced but not densely packed along the stem, the effect is a graceful wand of flowers that sways with the wind and "waves" for your attention. Very beautiful, and very elegant looking. Full sun. 4 feet tall, 2 feet wide. Any well-drained soils. Fresh hard-to-find seeds, harvested 05/2017.
Our website for actively-growing plants and cuttings (eclecticplants.ecrater.com) is now re-opened starting 6/2/2014. Cuttings of some Salvia species are available there.
