Native to the West Indies and South America, Canna edulis is a vigorous but deciduous grower that will reach 10' in nature, though it is usually about half that size in gardens setting. Its tubers are used as food in the Andean Mountain and it is the source of Arrowroot starch in Australia. There are many forms of this species, varying in colors of flowers and foliage. On offer here are seeds from parent plants that have green leaves, and bicolored flowers that are red and yellow with red flecks. Hardy from zone 7 onwards. 5 to 10 feet tall, 1 foot wide. Full sun to part shade. Rich, evenly moist soil. Fresh seeds, harvested 11/2014.
Our website for actively-growing plants and cuttings (eclecticplants.ecrater.com) is now re-opened starting 6/2/2014.
