Ipomoea nil 'Purple Reverse Tube', 5 seeds
Most folks find it hard to believe that this is a Japanese Morning Glory, and with good reasons too. It is a mutant, not available in commercial packets and with flower and leaf forms very different from the rest. Unlike most JMGs, it bears the yellow gene causing its leaves to be chartreuse rather than green. This reduction in chorophyll results in a vine that is not as vigorous as the others. It would be easy to think that the odd curling and wrinkling of the unusually shaped leaves is a result of some kinds of virus or pest attacks, but that is the just the way the plant is. This leaf form is known as 'blown'. When the plant blooms, again, one might be puzzled by the fact that there are 2 kinds of blooms on the SAME plant, even on the same day. One kind is a single purple, and the other is a wonderfully contrasty purple with reverse white tube. All these unique characteristics make this one of the most unusual Japanese Morning Glories. There is possbily no other morning glory that will blow (pun intended! :-)) your mind away like this. 6 feet or more. Full sun for earliest bloom. Poor soil. Moderate water. Very rare seeds, harvested 02/2011. Open-pollinated.
