Hibiscus syriacus, 10 seeds
Here is an old-fashioned perennial plant that grandma used to grow, with the hippiest color! This lavender Rose Of Sharon is a hardy hibiscus (H. syriacus), not to be confused with the tropical hibiscuses (H. rosa sinensis) nor with the blue hibiscuses (Alyogyne genus). This easy-to-grow shrub flowers on new wood and can be easily kept small by aggressive pruning in early spring. Flowers in summer with numerous, large, lavender (some might call it blue) blooms with a contrasty red eye in the center outlined by pale yellow stamens and pistil. Quite a knockout in full bloom. Hardy from zone 5 onwards. Full sun to part shade. Not fussy about soil conditions. Moderate watering. Fresh seeds, harvested 09/2009.
