Ribes sanguineum 'Album', 10 seeds
One of the very few joys at a botanically bereft time of the year, this hard-to-find, deciduous, thornless, native shrub is studded with capburst of long showy flower clusters during winter. Here is an extremely scarce variety of Ribes sanguineum that has pure white (straight species has pink), star-shaped blooms, framed beautifully by the green, handsome, irregularly toothed, maple-like leaves. Attractive to hummingbirds and bees, and green berry-like fruits are formed upon pollination. The currants are edible, turning black when ripened and can be eaten fresh or made into jam, juice and win. Hardy from zone 5 upwards. Full shade to part shade. 12 feet tall, 3 feet wide. Well-drained, mildly acidic soil. Average water, heat and drought tolerant. Exclusive seeds, harvested 07/2010.
