Clytostoma callistegioides, 7 seeds
Robust, carefree, evergreen, perennial tendril vine from Argentine that is taking the US by storm. Everybody is talking about the Lavender Trumpet Vine, the Purple Trumpet Vine, the Argentine Trumpet Vine, the Painted Trumpet Vine and yes, they are all talking about this Violet Trumpet Vine, Clytostoma callistegioides! Move over, other kinds of perennial vines -- this is the new vine that is on everyone's lips. Its gorgeously violet, trumpet-shaped, 3" flowers are very distinct since they have a yellow throat delicately detailed with purple veins. The whole plant is covered with blooms from spring through summer. Bright glossy oblong leaves. A note about buying Lavender Trumpet Vine -- there is lots of confusion between Red Trumpet Vine (Campsis radicans)/Scarlet Trumpet Vine (Distictis buccinatoria)/Pink Trumpet Vine (Podranea ricasoliana) and Lavender Trumpet Vine (Clytostoma callistegioides), even among well-known plant/seed catalogs. Although all of these Trumpet Vines are garden worthy and great for your trellis, be sure to check the photos (the flowers should look brillantly purple, and not red/pink) before buying to make sure that you are getting the deal you want. Hardy from zone 8 onwards. 20 feet or more. Full sun to part shade. Regular, well-drained soil. Hard-to-find fresh seeds, harvested 10/2017.
