Fuchsia procumbens, 20 seeds
In its native habitat in New Zealand, this fascinating curios Fuchsia grows on the sandy dunes besides the sea, hence its common name Shore Fuchsia. A summer-blooming species that freely produces small flowers with green-yellow tubes and green-purplish maroon sepals. Usually, each bloom has NO (!) corolla, and the red stamens are tipped with bright blue/purple pollen. The exotic flower not withstanding, the main event is the green seed pods which, if left to mature, turn purple and swell to plum size! With its creeping stems, Fuchsia procumbens is suitable for the hanging basket, or for used as groundcover trailing over a rock or slope. Round leaves. Hardy from zone 9 onwards. 6 inches tall, 4 feet wide. Light shade. Moist but well-drained soil. Hard-to-find seeds, harvested 08/2017.
