Salvia clevelandii 'Winifred Gilman', 10 seeds
This perennial, though commonly called Cleveland Sage, is native to California, not to Cleveland, :-). Salvia clevelandii bears exquisite purplish-blue/lavender flower with dusky mulberry colored calyxes. The pagoda-tiered blooms lasts from spring to late fall, and are very attractive to hummingbirds, bees and sulfur butterflies. In full bloom, the whole plant is a sight to behold. The fragrance exuded by the narrow, gray-green, pebbled-texture leaves, however, is reason enough to grow this plant. On a warm night, you can smell the pleasantly sweet, woody, strong lavender-like, distinctive aroma as far as away as 20 feet! Many sage enthusiasts rank this Salvia tops for having the sweetest "nose". 'Winifred Gilman' is a particularly attractive variety with the most intense colors, and slightly more dwarf than the straight species. Hardy from zone 8 onwards. 3 1/2 feet tall and wide. Full sun to part shade. Well-drained soil. Drought-tolerant. Very rare exclusive seeds, harvested 09/2016.
Our website for actively-growing plants and cuttings (eclecticplants.ecrater.com) is now re-opened starting 6/2/2014. Cuttings of some Salvia species are available there.
