Porophyllum ruderale, 50 seeds
An aromatic mexican plant popular with the hispanic communities, Papalo has been given other common names such as summer cilantro and bolivian coriander thanks to its tolerance for heat. Yet, Porophyllum ruderale is not related to that herb at all; and really, in our opinion, not similar in smell nor taste too. Bearing an unusual, piquant, distinctive flavor, Papalo is not an ingredient you can easily find in any recipes. For the adventurous cook/chef or the foodie though, it is marvelously exciting and makes even the simplest of dishes tastes extremely complex. In the garden, this member of the daisy family grows as a multi-branched plant with green oval leaves. Blooms in late summer with slender rayless flower heads of brown disks. 3 feet tall, 2 feet wide. Full sun. Well-drained garden soil. Regular water needs. Fresh seeds, harvested 11/2016 - 12/2016.
Our website for actively-growing plants and cuttings (eclecticplants.ecrater.com) is now re-opened starting 6/2/2014. Cuttings of some Salvia species are available there.
