Ricinus communis 'Impala', 15 seeds
Despite its common name, the castor bean is not a true bean and is in fact, toxic if eaten raw. The species is a fast-growing, suckering shrub indigenous to East Africa that can quickly grow to 7 feet or more. However, it has been extensively bred and there are now cultivars with differences in flower/foliage color and in oil prodeuction. Here is the dwarf version suitable for smaller gardens. A beautiful tropical-looking plant with young, reddish palmate leaves at the top and mature green foliage nearer the ground, it quickly adds a touch of drama whenever it is used. Blooms in summer, followed by striking red seed pods.6 feet tall, 4 feet wide. Full sun. Well-drained, rich garden soils. Regular water. Fresh seeds, harvested 11/2016 - 12/2016.
Our website for actively-growing plants and cuttings (eclecticplants.ecrater.com) is now re-opened starting 6/2/2014. Cuttings of some Salvia species are available there.
