Begonia grandis, 35 seeds
A hardy and truly lovely herbaceous perennial for the shade gardens, Begonia grandis grows from tuberous roots to form a clump of olive-green, heart-shaped leaves with red veining and wonderful claret-stained undersides. Handsome and bold as it is in foliage, pendent clusters of stainy-pink, delicate-looking flowers on tall red stalks appear from late summer onwards, lending yet another elements of interest and elegance to the area where it is planted. Spreading easily in a happy spot, it is tough enough even for dry shade. Hardy from zone 6 onwards. 3 feet tall and wide. Part shade. Rich, well-drained soil. Regular watering. Hard-to-find, fresh seeds, harvested 11/2015.
