Salvia brandegeei 'Pacific Blue', 10 seeds
Named after an early American botanist, Brandegee's Sage is a beautiful, heavily branched evergreen shrub from the Channel Islands off the California Coast and northern Baja California. A very vigorous grower tolerant of a wide range of soils, Salvia brandegeei has narrow, dark green, extremely fragrant foliage with a wrinkled texture on top and covered with fine white hairs underneath. 'Pacific Blue' is a self-sown seedling selected for its darker than normal, lavender blue flowers formed in tiers. Introduced by Santa Barbara Botanic Garden in 2004, it has found its way into many Salvia collector's gardens because not only is it tough, it is even deer resistant and attractive to bees, hummingbirds and bees. 6 feet tall and wide. Hardy from zone 8 onwards. Full sun. Sandy to clay soils. Drought tolerant once established. Usually available only in plant forms. Very fresh, hard-to-find seeds, harvested 10/2017.
Our website for actively-growing plants and cuttings (eclecticplants.ecrater.com) is now re-opened starting 6/2/2014. Cuttings of some Salvia species are available there.
